Why study a Graphic Media Communication degree?

Do you have a passion for storytelling through graphic design? Our two-year foundation degree in Creative Arts with Graphic Media Communication (GMC) could be your perfect match!

With understanding how artistic methods compliment communication channels at the heart of the course, hear from our Creative Arts lecturer, Carolyn at our University Centre who leads the GMC course. Amassing over 20 years’ experience teaching design and communication with a focus on visualisaion and narrative, here’s why Carolyn thinks you should choose to study this future-proof foundation degree!

Designing unique experiences

Graphic Media Communication is essentially what it says on the tin, producing digital materials through graphic design and storytelling to foster bespoke communications. This course is ideal for contemporary and creative thinkers who thrive with the challenge of elevating brand identities and making an impact through diverse concepts.

At Calderdale College, we have embedded teaching and learning practices at our University Centre which encourages you to bring your own ideas to the table, supporting both your career development and growth. You will be supported by our tutors who have first-hand experience in industry to ensure you progress professionally.

Across the first two years, you will develop a practical understanding of contemporary and emerging practice in graphic commmuniction through storytelling, interaction through AI, automation and graphic design.

The third and final year (the BA top up) provides an opportunity to establish your skills as you build a portfolio of creative work through a final major project to best prepare you for the working world when you graduate.

Hear it from our students!

Cohan Mortimer, one of our final year Graphic Media Communication degree students says…”I have gained a better understanding of the strategy behind branding and the importance of how products and services speak and communicate with audiences through design. The grey areas are so important to gain scope of a project, I like that the course isn’t so black and white as you can be open to creative interpretation. The course has allowed me to create a vast portfolio to showcase my work and capabilities to clients to get work experience. I’d say if you’re looking for that confidence to develop your graphic skills and apply your knowledge in multi-media projects, then go for it!”
