Six ways free Mental Health Training can help your business
Mental health training may not be thought of as a business essential, however what many employers don’t realise is that for just a small investment of time and zero investment of money, the benefits of mental health training can be far reaching, long-lasting, and even unexpected!
Our Collaborative Apprenticeships project offers free training in Mental Health First aid for both employers and employees, including current and prospective apprentices,* but how can it actually positively benefit your business?
1. Builds awareness
Training is great for spreading awareness of mental health and how it affects people in different ways, in turn creating a happier and more understanding workplace culture, where employees are more likely to speak up if they are struggling.
2. Boosts morale
It also shows employees that their workplace really cares about them and wants them to do well, meaning that they take more pride in what they produce and feel more motivated while they’re at work.

3. Increases productivity
The boost to morale in turn has a positive impact on productivity, as employees work better when they’re happier, and are more inclined to want to do well.
4. Retains talent
Staff are more likely to stay loyal to your business, helping you to retain staff and reduce turnover, as well as minimising costs associated with recruitment.
5. Develops new skills
Mental health first aiders can develop their skills across areas including active listening and communication, which could boost their career prospects in the future.
6. Boosts your reputation
Having a reputation as a great place to work, and somewhere that invests in its staff can be invaluable for a businesses’ reputation. Not only will you stand out from your competitors, but being known as a great place to work will mean you can continually attract the highest skilled staff, putting your business in a much better place to weather any storms it may face.
