Calderdale College students inspire primary schools to enjoy basketball

More than 30 school pupils from All Saints Primary School enjoyed a basketball training session delivered by Calderdale College students on Friday.

The College students, who make up an elite basketball academy on top of their studies, represented the Bradford Dragons Basketball Team in the coaching session. Bradford Dragons are a semi-professional basketball club who currently compete in the NBL Division 1, the second tier of British Basketball.

The event welcomed a mix of ages from All Saints and was a brilliant opportunity for both students and pupils to learn something new.

Tim Redfearn, Basketball Development Officer at Calderdale College, said: “It was a fantastic afternoon to welcome pupils to the outstanding sport facilities we have here at the College.

“It was also amazing to see young people get involved in a new sport they haven’t had the chance to play before.

“Our academy students made us proud – taking their time to explain the different elements of the game to our visitors. We wanted to make sure everyone had a fun experience whilst learning a new sport that they can go onto play in the future, alongside knowing the mental and physical benefits of keeping active.”
