From college course to car connoisseur, this is Blaine’s story…

Following the successful completion of a full-time Level 2 course in Fabrication & Welding at Calderdale College, former-student Blaine Wild Robertshaw has taken the next step in shaping his future career, starting his apprenticeship at ADO Restorations Ltd! A vintage vehicle restoration company tucked away in the heart of Halifax’s former textile and industrial district.

The opportunity came about when ADO recently opened its doors to students in Calderdale looking for an apprenticeship to be part of a growing company. Blaine impressed the ADO team with his enthusiasm and knowledge of vehicle restoration processes. He was invited to look around the workshop and see all the exciting projects ADO are working on, where he gained an insight into what a typical day is like being an apprentice.

Blaine said: “I was interested in Fabrication and Welding when I was looking at courses after school, as I wanted to pick up traditional trade skills that can be applied to everyday work in practical jobs. Calderdale College has developed my confidence and has encouraged me to be proactive in looking for my next opportunity after my studies. Now starting an apprenticeship with ADO Restorations, my Level 2 course has allowed me to progress and ensure I am prepared for all the opportunities within industry!”.

Thanks to ADO’s efforts in supporting the training and upskilling of their team, Blaine is attending the Heritage Skills Academy in Oxfordshire to perfect his skills at one of the UK’s leading car restoration colleges, learning primarily on vintage and classic cars. Building on his current age-old techniques taught by our industry-experienced tutors at Calderdale College, Blaine will continue to expand is knowledge to ensure he is client-ready when working at ADO Restorations.

ADO Restorations Co-Owner, Clive Horsman, said: “We are grateful to have Blaine onboard. He arrived for his first interview suited up and he interviewed well, so we offered him a trial day. Demonstrating an eagerness to work and learn more, he turned up to the trial with boots, overalls and even his own welding helmet! We are pleased to offer Blaine a full-time apprentice position working alongside our team of restoration specialists.”

Calderdale College is proud of Blaine’s achievement, starting out on a Level 1, then progressing onto Level 2 Fabrication and Welding, he has realised his full potential through hard work and dedication which has impressed his now employer, ADO Restorations Ltd. We look forward to seeing where Blaine takes his career as college alumni!
