Dog grooming never felt so unaffordable? Here’s how you can save your money…

Owning a four-legged family member can be pricey, especially during a cost-of-living crisis, but Calderdale College has a solution that can even help owners make some money.

On average, dog owners in Calderdale spend between £30-£50 on grooming their fur babies in salons every 4-8 weeks, taking it up to £600 annually. Plus, with the rising popularity of luxury spa treatments such as blueberry facials and mini makeovers, the cost of pampering your pooch could outstrip some of your household bills.

Calderdale College has a solution that can save dog owners hundreds of pounds each year. The College’s new Level 3 Dog Grooming courses, created for both school leavers and adults, give owners the chance to save some money, while caring for their pup at home.

The new courses also give students the chance to learn valuable skills around salon management, so they can even set up their own dog grooming business. The number of dog owners has increased significantly since the pandemic*, so there’s a higher demand for groomers than ever before. Why not open your own salon and put your new grooming skills to the test?

The 18-week qualification will take you on a journey from complete beginner to being able to confidently style several dog breeds, and will cover key areas such as health and safety in a dog grooming environment and preparing, styling and finishing.

The courses will run at a range of start dates throughout the academic year and there are still some places available on the first group launching this September.
