The business undertook skills training for their staff to improve knowledge/experience within job role. Their marketing manager Julie and HR manager Becky spoke to Rise at Calderdale College to detail their experience with Rise and how it impacted their business!
Story
We are a family-run business based in Pudsey, Leeds who specialise in textile manufacturing across a range of industries including the military, apparel, fashion, interiors, aviation and PPE. We have been sourcing and producing materials locally within our vertical mills since 1783 and our organisation is made up of 170 staff members.
We first became aware of Rise when a promotional and informative email came through to a colleague regarding the services on offer – this was passed on to us for review, as it was relevant to our business needs at the time. We were looking for a specific training course to support multiple managers and budding managers within our organisation, to ensure there were cohesive standards and procedures across the board. We aimed to strengthen individual skills and ways of working to obtain a more streamlined process.
The content of the course was what drew us to use Rise’s services, as it was the most suitable to the specific upskilling we required within our organisation. The Employer Engagement Advisors were clear and helpful when explaining the different modules to us, and Graham the tutor explained he was able to tailor modules to suit our needs! The overall friendliness and supportiveness of the staff at Rise also aided our decision in choosing the college as our training provider, and we were also eligible for generous funding which of course helped! As a result, 10 of our employees enrolled onto Rise’s Management training courses.
Throughout training, we built a strong working relationship with the Rise team – together we developed a great 2-way communication system whereby Rise would consistently check in to make sure we were getting the most out of the course. Discussions took place as to any areas where we would like further information or coverage during the training, which was really helpful if there were specific areas we wanted our staff to learn more about. In general, the forward-planning and preparation from the Rise team made the process smooth-sailing and understandable for us and our team members.
We found that the course improved the general skills of managers within the business and ensured they had better knowledge and experience to handle their team members. Alongside this, it improved the connections between different managers in that they were able to share ideas, processes and develop their learning together. This built team rapport and we have seen better working relationships as a result. The course was varied with team work sessions and was very interactive throughout – for some, the content was a good refresher and for others, it supported with thinking differently and ‘polishing’ techniques.
We had further training arranged with Rise but unfortunately, we had to postpone due to the pandemic. However, due to the impact that the training has had on our staff and our business, we will certainly be looking to organise some more training going forwards. We haven’t yet identified any areas for development that Rise do not have a solution for, but we know that if any arise going forwards, Rise would do their best to accommodate us.[/cs_content_seo]
