Calderdale College joins The Welding Institute
We are proud to announce that Calderdale College has joined the internationally respected Welding Institute.
The Welding Institute is a leading engineering institution that supports welding and joining professionals with keeping up-to-date on new and emerging technologies and techniques. Established 100 years ago, it now supports over 550 different organisations.
The Institute’s education and training branch, The Association for Welding, Fabrication, Training and Education (AWFTE), will allow the College’s fabrication and welding department to participate in contributing to the National Welding Training Standards & Occupational Standards, to support students with meeting welding requirements when they go into the industry.

Calderdale College engineering specialist and former Welding Institute committee member, Craig Lockwood, said: “For the department and the College, this is a fantastic opportunity. It allows us to promote ourselves to key stakeholders and open doors to supporting new students. It will also raise the profile of the College, demonstrating the brilliant work we are doing to other organisations, and help us to continuingly improve our offer.”
Robin Smith, Head of Faculty for Creative, Digital & Professional Trades, added: “Our aim is to continue to develop our offer for students to provide them with the skills required by employers of today and the future.
“The Welding Institute is internationally recognised and leads the way in providing colleges and businesses with continuous development and growth, by sharing best practice and the latest innovations in welding.”
