Course Overview

This is a Level 1 Award in Health, Social Care, and Children and Young People.

This qualification develops a basic knowledge of the health and social care sector and children’s services. It covers the type of job roles and services within the UK and the importance of valuing the individuals being cared for.

You will also improve your English skills by working with the tutor and other students from different countries.

Modules/Highlights:

The course provides an understanding of what Health and Social Care is, as well as children’s services available in the UK. There is information around jobs and progression in the sector, and how to live healthy

Start Date

There are classes starting throughout the year.

5 hours per week.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

No prior knowledge of Health and Social Care is required. The course is aimed at people who do not have English as a first language. You should have studied or be studying English at Entry 3 or Level 1.

If you are studying Entry 2, you need to talk with the course tutor. This conversation is to make sure you will understand the language used in the course.

All applicants will be required to attend an interview with the course tutor, to check this is the correct course for you.

Progression

After successfully completing this course, you can go on to study Level 2 in Adult Social Care, or join the Level 1 Mental Health Awareness course at Calderdale College. This will be discussed with the Adult Progression Officer.

Career Opportunities:
This course does not qualify you to immediately enter a job, however you will understand how the sector works. You may be able to work in a care home or on home visits.

Assessment Methods

Students will be assessed throughout the course via tasks, portfolios and coursework.
