
Understanding Mentoring
Free training for apprenticeship mentors!
Upskill mentors and managers so that they can better support apprentices with our free Mentoring training.*
The courses are designed to help mentors develop an understanding of the role and nature of mentoring, as well as allowing them to reflect on their own performance.
The training also helps participants to understand how they can best support an apprentice in achieving their career goals.
The accredited programmes available include:
- Level 2 Understanding Mentoring
Designed for individuals who are new to mentoring and delivered over one and a half days, our Level 2 course covers the following modules:
- The role of a mentor and the benefits of mentoring
- What makes a mentor effective in their roles
- How to organise mentoring
- Level 3 Understanding Good Practice in Mentoring
Suited to current mentors who want to develop their mentoring knowledge and skills, and delivered over two days, our Level 3 course covers the following modules:
- Effective mentoring within an organisational context
- The importance of effective and ethical contracting
- The process of effective mentoring within your own workplace
- The role of recording, reflection and supervision
Participants will receive a certificate accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

The training is part of the Collaborative Apprenticeships project and is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF). The project is managed by the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges (WYCC) and Calderdale College is supporting the delivery.
