A group of NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapists visited Woodfield Grange Nursing Home in Greetland on Monday. Along with their tutor Leanne Brannan, the six learners from the College’s North Halifax Skills Centre performed mini manicures including hand and arm massages and nail polishing.

Construction learners walk to York for Children in Need

19th November 2010 Construction learners walk to York for Children in Need

Thirteen learners and three members of staff set off on foot from the College’s North Halifax Skills Centre’s Construction Academy at 12.30am on Thursday 18th November. They walked the 43 mile journey to York, collecting donations along the way and arrived at the York Castle Museum at 7.30pm the following evening, where they joined the live BBC broadcast. Once all the money has been collected, the team will have raised over £1000.

Former Calderdale College performing arts student Philip Hill-Pearson has begun filming scenes for Steven Spielberg’s new film War Horse, which is set in the trenches of the First World War.   Philip plays a young British soldier in Spielberg’s adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s best-selling novel, which tells the story of Joey, a young farm horse who is sold to the army in 1914 . The incredibly moving tale has captivated audiences young and old as a children’s novel and an award-winning West End production.

Students at Calderdale College have marked Global Entrepreneurship Week (15 – 21 November) with a Dragon’s Den style challenge. Students from a range of departments, from business to art & design, completed various tasks throughout the day before attempting to win over the Dragons with their business ideas.
