PLUMBING APPRENTICE COMPETES IN REGIONAL COMPETITION

29th March 2018 PLUMBING APPRENTICE COMPETES IN REGIONAL COMPETITION

Mason Butterfield, Level 2 Plumbing Apprentice at Calderdale College has recently competed in the annual Northern Area Plumbing Competition held at Burnley College on the 18th of January.

This fantastic opportunity allowed Mason to meet other plumbing apprentices from the North of England; speak to employers who sponsored the competition as well as demonstrate the skills he has learned to date at Calderdale College and on site at his place of work.

Judges and tutors were very impressed with the skills presented by Mason, who just missed the third prize. When speaking about the competition he said:

“It was definitely worth the time and effort, attending and entering the event. It was great to share information and experiences with other apprentices; and my employer was very proud that I felt confident with my skills and abilities to enter the competition. I did really well and I’m proud of my achievement.”

Mason is undertaking his apprenticeship with A.F.Connell and works on large commercial and industrial sites installing plumbing and heating systems. He comments on his experience:

“I learn while I earn a wage. I work with experienced people and I learn a lot from them, they always provide me with help when I need it! If things go as I hope, I intend, with the support of A F Connells to progress to a level three plumbing qualification at Calderdale College. I see a good secure future in this industry.”

When speaking about Mason and the competition, Steve Parkin, Mechanical Contracts Director at A.F.Connell Ltd said:

‘’Mason has excelled during his Apprenticeship, College training and whilst employed at A.F.Connell Ltd . Being chosen to compete for Apprentice of the year is a fantastic achievement, Mason should be very proud of himself.

Calderdale College have been extremely supportive throughout his development and recognising his achievements by awarding him with a gift is a very well received and appreciated gesture. Massive well done to all involved and in particular Mason, who will I’m sure have an extremely successful and rewarding career in the years to come. ’’
