Joelle Hill a level 2 Beauty student has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to the training and mentoring of her peers.
Joelle, who enrolled at Calderdale College at the age of 15, progressed through her course achieving her level 1 qualification before continuing with further education. Joelle has always set a standard, showing a keen interest in coaching and mentoring fellow students and after been given the opportunity to prove herself, Joelle shined.
A group of four learners enrolled on the 14-16 beauty therapy course had become unmotivated and felt enticed into leaving their course. However in an effort to find a compromise the Hair and Beauty Department and School Liaison decided on an intensive two day training course for the students, led by Joelle. Through her conduct Joelle encouraged maturity and a sense of professionalism within the students, supporting their success.
Joelle’s tutor Leanne commented ‘I believe Joelle is a very reliable individual who has really boosted the student’s confidence in their abilities, which in turn has increased their motivation. We are very proud of her.’
Joelle, herself quoted ‘It was an experience I definitely enjoyed, and that I'd do again if the opportunity arose. It was encouraging for me to see the students responding so positively towards me when they had become dishearten with the course. I believe the closeness in age made it easier for each of us, to relate to one another’.
