College players impress in FC Halifax Town debuts

10th December 2009

Although the result didn’t go as planned, the four players who made their debuts for FC Halifax Town against Farsley in the West Riding County Cup did themselves and the College proud. The match finished with a 2-1 defeat for the Shaymen but manager Neil Aspin drafted in four players from the College’s football academy - Sanchez Heffernan, George Fry, Hayden Keris and Jason Carney and all played the full 90 minutes.

Aspin was clearly impressed by their contributions, “it is hard when you have no reserve team, but we had four lads last night from college who helped us out," he said. "Sanchez Heffernan showed pace up front and George Fry showed some nice touches and had good feet. That is pleasing for me because you want to see young, enthusiastic players who want to do well. We need to be looking at players local to Halifax who want to play for the club. I would certainly rather work with someone like that than someone who just wants to come and pick up the money. I have no time for people like that.
