How to Find Us

Halifax is conveniently situated on the M62 corridor. It is easily reached by road and rail.

On foot

Calderdale College is 10 minutes on foot from Halifax Town Centre and approximately 15-25 minutes from the bus and train stations. It is an easy to get to as it is on the main road to Sowerby Bridge & Hebden Bridge. Walking to college is a healthy, environmentally friendly and inexpensive way to travel! Many students already walk to Calderdale College. There is a pleasant, direct pedestrian route signposted from Halifax Town Centre to the Francis Street Campus. This route avoids busy roads and dual carriageways, passing the famous green space of People's Park on the way.

Walking from the Town Hall, Crossley Street, Halifax

  1. When in Crossley Street, outside the Town Hall, walk to the top of Crossley Street.
  2. Turn Left into Waterhouse Street.
  3. Take second right into Silver Street and cross to the left hand side of the street.
  4. At the top of Silver Street join the dual carriageway and walk to the Pelican crossing. Cross over the road, walk to your left keeping the building line on your right and walk uphill.
  5. Take Hopwood Lane (on your right) and continue to walk up Hopwood Lane approx half mile. Calderdale College is in Francis Street on your left.

By Car

Driving from Rochdale or Oldham

  1. Approach Ripponden on either the A58 or the A672.
  2. Continue toward Halifax on the A58. 
  3. After approx 4.5 miles follow signs for Halifax Town Centre and join Aachen Way (dual carriageway).
  4. At the third set of traffic lights turn left into Parkinson Lane then take first turning right into Francis Street.

Driving from Burnley via Todmorden

  1. From Todmorden follow the sign post for Halifax (A646). After approx 9.5 miles join the A58 and the Aachen Way (dual carriageway), following signs for Halifax Town Centre.
  2. At the third set of traffic lights turn left into Parkinson Lane then take first turning right into Francis Street.

Driving from the M62 (Junction 24) and Huddersfield

  1. Continue towards Halifax along the A629 and travel approx 1.3 miles to the traffic lights at Dryclough Lane, turn left.(see Calderdale Royal Hospital on left)
  2. Continue straight forward through two sets of traffic lights and one mini roundabout. To the traffic lights at King Cross (see the Fire Station on the right)
  3. Turn right into Aachen Way (dual carriageway), following signs for Halifax Town Centre.At the third set of traffic lights turn left into Parkinson Lane then take first turning right into Francis Street.

Driving from the Keighley

  1. Approach Halifax on the A629. After approx 2.5 miles you join a dual carriageway and shortly will see Dean Clough Mills (on your left), a large mill complex.
  2. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit signed A58 Rochdale/Burnley; continue onto Burdock Way underpass (dual Carriageway).
  3. At the second set of traffic Lights turn right into Parkinson Lane
  4. Turn right into Francis Street.

Driving from the Bradford via Queensbury

  1. Approach Halifax on the A647, merge slight left onto Burdock Way and immediately keep right to stay on Burdock Way and continue on the A58 following signs for Rochdale/Burnley; continue onto Burdock Way underpass (dual Carriageway).
  2. At the second set of traffic Lights turn right into Parkinson Lane
  3. Turn right into Francis Street.

Driving from the Bradford via Northowram or Leeds via Hipperholme

  1. Approach Halifax on the A6036 (Bradford) and the A58 (Leeds) follow signs A58 for Rochdale/Burnley; continue onto Burdock Way underpass (dual Carriageway).
  2. At the second set of traffic Lights turn right into Parkinson Lane
  3. Turn right into Francis Street.

By train

Halifax Railway Station is only few stops from Leeds which has extensive links.

There is a regular train service to Halifax from Leeds via Bradford and to Halifax from Manchester Victoria.

There is a limited Trans Pennine train service which runs from Blackpool to York via Burnley and Halifax. Halifax Rail Station is a 5 minute walk from the town centre as is the bus station.

  • Birmingham : 3 hours
  • Manchester : 45 minutes
